Yoga for Your Dosha & Intro to Ayurveda, with Charmaine van Niekerk and Dr. Sunita Tarkunde
Date & Time: March 27th, 9:30 – 12 noon
Yoga and Ayurveda are the 5000 year old sister sciences of ancient India, together forming a complete approach for optimal health, vitality and higher awareness. Yoga is the more spiritually-oriented practice teaching us to move from our ego bound identity to gaining knowledge of our true nature. Ayurveda deals with therapy and treatment for the physical body and the mind.
The terms vata, pitta, and kapha are Ayurvedic terms which describe archetypal body characteristics as well as their tendency toward specific strengths, weaknesses, and imbalances, and have direct links to our yoga practice.
Our dosha (body type) is affected by food, environment, lifestyle and exercise.
What is the right diet or asana for your individual type? In this workshop:
· We will introduce you to the basic principles of Ayurveda
· You will learn how to determine your dosha
· Know how it feels when out of balance
· You will learn that some foods or exercise aggravate certain body types (doshas) while others pacify and bring it into balance
· You will practice and feel the effects of yoga poses for the each of the three doshas
